The Thames Valley Festival Orchestra
A large symphony orchestra founded in 2023, with players from the South East of England.
The first concert the orchestra performed was at the Leytonstone Festival on Sept 9th, 2023. The work played at this concert was ‘Passing Open Windows: A Symphonic Tribute to Queen‘, arranged by Dee Palmer. The movements of the work comprise Queen’s most popular songs, arranged to cross many styles from baroque to classical to rock, all for large symphony orchestra. This work, recorded by the RPO in 1996, had not been performed in the UK since 1997 until the orchestra brought it back to the public’s attention in Leytonstone, September, 2023 then in Windsor in December 2023 and again in Dorchester Abbey, Oxfordshire in April 2024. In September 2024, the orchestra gave its 4th concert. This was a performance of Dee Palmer’s Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band orchestral arrangements plus a selection of Queen arrangements in Reading, Berkshire. May 10, 2025 was the first performance of our ‘Symphonic Prog Rock’ programme comprising selections from Dee Palmer’s symphonic arrangements of the music of British Prog Rock bands such as Jethro Tull, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd and Queen.
The orchestra performed ‘An Evening of Symphonic Prog Rock’ again on September 20, 2025 at Dorchester Abbey, Oxon.
In 2026, we will feature a new programme of arrangements by Louis Clark. Come and join us for an evening of ‘Symphonic ABBA’ on May 2, 2026 in Windsor.
